Below as excerpt from e-mail received from AMTA... I personally knew John and regarded him as a mentor and advocate of transportation safety here in Alberta.  John taught me Transportation Safety Basics and I dealt with him on internal and external safety audits over the past five years.  I always found him to be jovial, factual, by the book on the laws and regulations and a person whom always gave of himself.  He will be dearly missed by me and I extend my sympathies to John's family and post this tribute page to honour him and his achievements. Passing of John Tessier

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend and colleague, John Tessier, from cancer, on Wednesday, March 25, 2009. John had worked with the Alberta trucking industry for many years, as a driver and safety officer for carriers and then with the Alberta Trucking Industry Safety Association and the AMTA, retiring in 2007 to follow his passion of worker health and safety as an industry consultant. John was instrumental in the development of the standards that are currently used for the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program for the highway transportation industry and developed many training courses and procedures to help carriers and their workers to get home safely at the end of the day! John had great influence on many of our lives, personally and professionally.

John's funeral is scheduled for 1 PM, Monday, March 30th, at The First Alliance Church, 12345 - 40 Street SE, Calgary. Many have asked if they can make donations to help with the funeral and to support John's family. Any donations would be gratefully received. Please contact Pierson Funeral Services at 403-235-3602 to make those arrangements.

As the result of a recommendation from a good friend, the AMTA will be creating a Safety Award named after John to be presented at the Provincial Truck Driving Championship, another of John's passions. We will also be publishing a special edition of the AMTA newsletter in his honour. Anyone wishing to share a memory or experience, please send them to William Raccah at williamr1@amta.ca or fax to William at 403-243-4610.

John's family and loved ones thank you all deeply for your thoughts and prayers.
